Exercising at home difficult? No!
Most gyms won't reopen until July 1, 2020, so for now, we'll have to rely on working out at home. Today I'll show you a few tools that will allow you to get a full workout in without needing a half-measure gym in your attic or garage.
Although our gym is also opening on July 1st, they're going to use a reservation system, and I'm not sure if I'll use it for the first month. Luckily, Jan and I have since built up a nice stash of sports equipment that allows us to work out at home during this coronavirus pandemic.
The By Vosje sports stash consists of:
- Yoga mat
- BootyBand
- Full Body Band
- Kettlebell 4 kg
- Medicine ball 5 kilo
- 2 weights of 1 kilo each
- Ab Wheel
I looked in the Google Play Store to see what I could find:
- My Workout Plan
- Home Workouts
- 7 Minute Training (ideal if you want to exercise in between)
And there are countless apps you can download. There are also plenty of options for iOS. It's purely a matter of personal preference what suits you best.
I'm a big fan of adding the booty band to a large portion of my exercises: hip bridges, squats, deadlifts—it's all possible with the booty band. This way, I give my workouts that extra something and also activate my glutes, because:
“Pssst, my butt is sitting still too much 😉 ”
Yes, I want a nice butt, so you can imagine that I am very happy with the purchase of my beautiful turquoise Peachy (that's what I call "her").
The Full Body is also an ideal tool. It can mimic some of the gym equipment. Because I really miss those things! Luckily, it's a good interim solution for now!
This is n't a sponsored post or anything, but I've been using the BootyBand since April and the Bodyband from Lubna, the amazing powerhouse behind this brand, for a few weeks now, and I can tell you they're truly top-notch. Where rubber bands roll up and break, Lubna's don't. You pay a bit more for them, but you'll get years of use out of them , so the investment pays for itself quickly.
Lubna also has several e-books , where she shares useful information, tips, and tricks. She also shares exercises with the tires on her Instagram page . 😀 She's already a true professional in her field, so take it from me that her tips and advice, plus all the knowledge she shares, are incredibly valuable.
Lubna also has a great podcast series. Episode 4 is a good one to listen to before you start the Booty Band. You can find it on Spotify under "the lubna podcast."
Back to the blog post. It's very simple to create a good home gym with a limited number of products.
DIY Time!
I don't have any DIY options for the tires, but you can easily make the weights yourself.
Do you have two 2-liter bottles of soda or mineral water lying around? Fill them with water or sand, and voila: you have two 2-kilo weights (1.5-liter bottles will also work fine).
Did you do your gardening with vinegar? Jan recently picked up a 5-liter jerrycan from Aldi. Fill it with water or sand: there's your 5-kilo kettlebell 😉
Jumping rope is also a great workout if you start with a jump rope or a 2- or 2.5-meter piece of cord. Just search YouTube for jump rope workouts; you'll be amazed at the possibilities!
If you have any additions to these DIYs, shoot me in the comments!
So it's not at all difficult to make something at home.
And if you're not exactly athletic, start with a lovely walk every day. We also started with 5 km per day. Ideal if you use a pedometer 😉 It adds up nicely, I can tell you.
